The need for Security personnel working on campus to be exposed to modern methods of intelligence gathering from time to time as well as being provided with relevant logistics, welfare and moral support in line with contemporary trends took the front burner at the three days in-house training programme organised for the security operatives of the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti.
The various security experts who spoke at the seminar with the theme “Management of Security in a University System” took turn to amplify salient topics such as modern investigation and crisis management strategies, access and egress control mechanism, crime prevention and detection methodology, roles and responsibilities of security personnel as well as developing security intelligence gathering.
Neutralization of crisis and crime before snowballing, periodic psychological and mental evaluation of security personnel, employment of physical fit individuals as security men, proper checking of vehicles at the gate, overhauling of security architecture, heeding security advice and intelligence report by the University Management and installation of CCTV cameras at strategic places on campus were some of the measures recommended to strengthen the effective security system of the University.
The seasoned experts in security matters included the Former Chief Security Officer of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Dr Olusola Adetoyinbo, Chief Security Officer of the Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, Captain Ajayi (rtd) Area Commander of the Nigeria Police Force, Ikere Area Command, ACP Akanbi Olusegun and the O/C DSS, Ikere, Mr. S.A. Lawal.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of the Institution, Prof. Olufemi Adeoluwa while declaring the seminar open, charged men and officers of the Security Department of the Institution to be alive to their responsibilities and be good ambassadors of the University in their duty post.
Adeoluwa, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Dr Ibitola Makinde, commended the security men for their display of gallantry in the face of debilitating challenges. The university helmsman urged them to take the training programme seriously in order to build capacity and further sharpen their skills.
