Career services through counseling, facilitating career connections, mentoring students in acquiring information, knowledge, and competencies that enhance individual career development, academic success, and employability, providing students with career coaching through training and workshops along their students’ life-cycle for enhanced employability and self-reliance.
It is well established that the issue of graduate employability has been a major challenge in the Nigerian economy, with less than 12% of university graduates securing decent jobs after graduation. In the same vein, employers have continuously lamenting the quality of graduates being produced in Nigerian universities. In order to prepare new graduates for the labour market, it becomes imperative and expedient to implement pre-employment training programmes. Therefore, with high rate of unemployment and the huge number of graduates produced annually in Nigeria, including career services in Nigerian universities may reduce the rate of unemployed graduates. The establishment of Career Development and Employability Centre at BOUESTI was based on the recommendations contained in the report of the National Employability Benchmarking Baseline Assessment, which was submitted to the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) as a response to providing solution to the high rate of graduate unemployment in Nigeria. Since the indispensable role of career services in shaping successful career paths in the 21st century cannot be overemphasised, this centre focuses on career education and counselling, employer relations and a mentoring resource centre for BOUESTI students.
The Centre is under the office of the Vice-Chancellor, Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI).
