An orientation programme has been organised for the newly admitted students of the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti. The well-packaged three days orientation course, organised by the Directorate of Students’ Affairs, was designed to acclimatize the students with the institution’s environment, policies, procedures, regulations and utilization of facilities was attended by relevant functionaries of the University.
In his address of welcome, the Acting Dean, Students’ Affairs, Dr. Oyedokun Ajayi admonished the students to imbibe acceptable conducts during their stay in the University and harped on the essence of eschewing all forms of vices and acts of indiscipline. He concluded by saying, “We train you both in character and in learning”.
Addressing the students at the programme, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Olufemi Adeoluwa congratulated them for being the best among equals saying they should count themselves lucky to have secured admission into the citadel of learning. He echoed the motto of the school as “Learning for Self-Reliance’ and added that no stone would be left unturned in making the graduates of the school job creators and not job seekers. “We want to ensure that students that are coming in are well trained and can compete favourably with their peers in other universities”, he said.
He further stated that the University had taken proactive steps in addressing the accommodation challenges students often faced. “There is no doubt that accommodation will always be a problem because of the number of students coming in. We are encouraging public private partnership arrangement to increase hostel facilities on campus.”
In attestation of the benefits of the event, participants expressed happiness for being offered admission into the niversity and shared their views accordingly. Omole Dennis of the Department of Electrical/Electronics Engineering and Adeyemi Adekunbi of the Department of Media and Performing Arts said the presentations were educative and interesting.
